Dr. Simpson is a son of John Wilson Simpson and Sarah "Sallie" Murphy. He was raised in Wayne Co IL, then graduated from the University of Louisville (KY) in _____ .

He practiced 3 years in Ozark Co MO, then in 1876 established a practice in Mountain Home AR in partnership with Dr. A.J. Brewer. He later entered into partnership with his brother, Dr. Joseph T. Simpson, and Dr. R.C. Wallis.

He married (1) Josie Flutey 3 February 1878 in Wayne Co IL. It is likely she died soon after (probably in childbirth), because in the 1880 census he is by himself as a boarder with a family in Mountain Home. **NOTE** 1/25/2013 more info on Josie received from member#47180987 "Josie Flutey Simpson married Stephen A. Brown (Honorable S. A. Brown) on August 4, 1884. She is buried next to her husband Stephen A. Brown in Salem Cemetery, Salem, AR". So it appears Josie did not die young, instead there was a divorce.

He married (2) Lugilla Hicks, daughter of Maj. Thomas Irby Hicks and Rebecca Jane Casey, 27 June 1882 in Baxter Co AR.

They had six children:
Thomas Hicks (1884)
Gertrude (1887)
Unnamed infant (1888)
John Murphy (1889)
Jerry Bryson (anytime between 1880 and 1895)
Ann Orine (1892)

Dr. Simpson was a Mason, and a member of the I.O.O.F. (Odd Fellows). He was on the board of trustees of the Mountain Home Baptist College.

Although his gravestone says he died on 30 December 1898, Mary Ann Messick, in *History of Baxter County* says he died suddenly on 3 January 1899. She notes that his obituary in the *North Arkansas News* begins with the statement "Never before was the entire community so shocked, as it was last Saturday morning, when the word was mournfully passed from lip to lip -- Dr. J.B. Simpson is dead."
