Fern Warnock Brent, 102, died May 17, 2001, at her home, Hutchinson.
She was born March 6, 1899, at Geneseo, the daughter of Charles R. and Mary Elizabeth Van Patten Peterson. A resident of Hutchinson since 1972, moving from Partridge, where she had lived since 1922, she was a 1918 graduate of Burdette High School and attended Fort Hays State and Sterling colleges. She taught school for four years in Hodgeman County, and at Kingman and Plevna. She also taught piano lessons. She was postmaster at Partridge from 1955 to 1970.
She belonged to Park Place Christian Church, Order of Eastern Star, Past Matrons Club, Myrtle Rebekah Lodge, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the AARP, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Retired Teachers Association and the former Hutchinson Garden Club.
On Sept. 8, 1922, she married Earl C. Warnock at Hanston. He died Sept. 21, 1952. On Sept. 22, 1956, she married Fred Brent at Hutchinson. He died Jan. 8, 1976.
Survivors include: two daughters, June Winslow, Hutchinson, and Luella Wainner, Norman, Okla.; two sisters, Nancy Zahn, Olympia, Wash., and Aileen Ewbank, Glenwood Springs, Colo.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, seven sisters and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Park Place Christian Church, Hutchinson, with Pastor Ed Pangburn presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. in Partridge Cemetery, Partridge.
Memorials may be sent to the church or to Hospice of Reno County, both in care of the mortuary.
