She was born on Aug. 9, 1921, in Dubuque, daughter of Frank and Bertha (Herberger) Feller.
Catherine graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1939 and from the St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Chicago in 1942.
She married James J. Ashland in 1943, in Chicago. He preceded her in death in 1979.
She was a bookkeeper and secretary for her husband's anesthesia business for 20 years. She also worked in the medical department of John Deere Dubuque Works for five years.
She enjoyed watching sports, going shopping and going to lunch with her daughter, Jan.
Catherine was a member and co-founder of the local widow's and widower's social group and was a member of Nativity Parish and Rosary Society for around 57 years.
Surviving are her five children, Jan (Keith "Chub")Lewin, of Dubuque, Mary Jo (Bob) Finnegan, of Dillsboro, Ind., Karyn Goodenow, of Maquoketa, John (Jane) Ashland, of Hiawatha, and Suzie (David) Lewis, of Denver, Colo.; a sister, Ardelle Rupp, of Dubuque; two sisters-in-law, Collette Feller and Doris Feller; 11 grandchildren, Mark and Carolyn Krepfle, Kelli McArdle, Andy and Casey Finnegan, Katie Ashland, Jessica Finki, Kathryn and Hannah Goodenow and Ali and Libby Lewis; and nine great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, George and Ed Feller.
