Thomas J. Ellis was a member of the 208th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (Civil War). He served as a member of the Field Officers and Staff as an Adjutant.

The son of Obediah B. & Sarah M. Ellis, he lived with his parents in Petersburg, Perry County, Pennsylvania, in 1860.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Harrisburg September 7, 1864, overstating his age by two years, mustered into federal service there September 15 as the adjutant of the 208th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with the regiment June 1, 1865.
