"Surrounded with the love of her family, Edna Mae (Mohn) Evard, 83, passed from this life early Sunday morning, Oct. 22, in her home after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Edna was born on Feb. 6, 1917, in Larwill, Ind., to William Roscoe and Lillian Mae Bennett Mohn. On June 25, 1936, in Columbia City, Ind., she married Franklin Longardner Evard, who preceded her in death on Nov. 22, 1976. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Ina Westlake in 1981.

During her life she was employed by the Ball Band Company in Mishawaka from 1951 to 1958. She was an active member of the Studebaker Auxiliary and the Centre Township Fire Department Auxiliary where she held the offices of secretary and treasurer.

Surviving are her daughter, Rochelle I. Dolde (Bill) of Edwardsburg, Mich.; three sons, William M. (Laurie) of Ambler, Pa., Ronald L. (Joy) of South Bend, and Thomas F. (Debra) of Elkhart; a sister, Eva Metzger of Columbia, Ind.; 22 grandchildren, 24 great-grand-children, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will cherish the memory of her caring nature. It was not uncommon for even her newest acquaintances to call her 'mom' or 'grandma'. She had a kind word, a cup of coffee and a piece of homemade pie for all who passed through her life, right down to the washing machine delivery person. Edna met life head-on with a wry wit and sense of humor, always finding laughter in any situation. Her very special 'self' will be sorely missed by all.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Trinity Evangelical Free Church, 61770 Miami Road. Officiating will be Rev. William D. Webster. Burial will be at Southlawn Cemetery." The South Bend Tribune (South Bend, Indiana), October 25, 2000
