Mildred Griffin Abernathy, 69, of Calloway Court, Rockmart passed away Saturday, May 13, 2006. Mrs. Abernathy was born in Polk County on Dec. 12, 1936, daughter of the late Elva Irene William Griffin and the late Henry B. Griffin. Mrs. Abernathy was a homemaker and a member of the Unity Baptist Church. Mrs. Abernathy is survived by her husband, Mr. Gene Abernathy; two daughters and a son-in-law, Leatha Smith and Sheila and Steve Parrish all of Aragon; a brother, James Thacker of Aragon; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one niece and three nephews also survive. Funeral services were held Monday, May 15, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with Rev. Vic Sullins, Rev. David Blassingame, and Rev. Elgin Williams officiating. Interment followed in the family lot of Aragon Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Lannie Wiesner, Warren Gentry, Dustin Ferguson, Sloan Ferguson, Scott Parrish, and Fred Sewell.
