Obituary of Peter P Eklund
Mr Peter Eklund was born in Ostra Espings parish, Skane, Sweden, October 16,1861. He
immigrated to America in 1881 and came at that time to Mead, Nebr. He worked on farms
around Mead until 1886 when he bought 160 acres of land five miles west and five miles north of
Ceresco, Nebraska.
He married Miss Elsa Nelson October 9, 1887. This union was blessed with six children, Mrs.
Edith Palm, Mrs. Elder Almquist, Mrs. Victor Pearson and George Eklund. One child died in
infancy and one daughter, Esther passed away July 17, 1929.
Mr. Eklund rented out his farm in 1924 and bought a house in Ceresco Nebraska where he
lived the remaining days of his life. During the last five weeks his health has been failing. A
week ago last Sunday he was taken to the Wahoo Hospital. X- Rays revealed that the heart was
much enlarged and this condition seems to have brought about the rather sudden end. Mr. Eklund
passed away, Monday morning, May 4, at an age of 70 years 6 months and 15 days.
He leaves to mourn his departure the widow, Mrs. Peter Eklund, 4 children, 16 grandchildren
and also five sisters in Sweden. He has been a member of the Swedeburg Lutheran church since
1907 and served several years as trustee.
We remember our departed friend to those in need. He loved the word of God. He closed
every day with scripture reading and prayer. The last time we saw him in life he gave a beautiful
testimony of faith in the Lord, and that testimony he gave to his family to the very last
Funeral services were conducted from the Swedeburg Lutheran church Wednesday afternoon
with Rev. Arthur Peterson in charge, assisted by Rev. Larson from Wahoo. Pallbearers were,
John Soder, P.W. Olson, August Swanson, G.S. Wallin, Nels Palm and Nels Tuveson. Interment
was made in the church cemetery..
