SHREVEPORT, LA - Funeral services for Frank John "Jack" Reeks will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 26, 2007, at St. Mark's Cathedral in Shreveport. Officiating will be The Very Reverend M.L. Agnew, Jr. of St. Mark's. Interment will follow in Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Avenue. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2007, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home on Marshall Street.
Jack was a lifelong resident of Shreveport. He was born on August 15, 1926 to John T. Reeks and Ernestine Landry Reeks. He passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2007 after a lengthy illness.
Jack graduated from C.E. Byrd High School in 1942 and received his B.S. Degree in Business Administration from Centenary College in 1947, where he was a proud member of the Centenary College Choir. He served his country in the United States Navy Air Corps from 1943 through 1946.
Jack was active in the Republican Party most of his life. He served as a chairman of the Caddo Parish Republican Party during the 1960's.
After graduation from Centenary College, Jack joined his father at John T. Reeks & Sons, Inc. Food Brokers and continued to work in the food brokerage business until 1982. He continued his higher education at LSUS in 1978, where he took his accounting courses and passed the CPA exam in 1982. Jack then worked in public practice as a CPA for two years until joining the Credit Bureau of Greater Shreveport as Controller and Human Services Manager, where he worked until his retirement in 1992.
During his lifetime, Jack was a faithful servant of the Lord through his service in the Episcopal Church. During his early years he was a choir member and acolyte at St. Mark's Episcopal Church. He served as a lay reader for many years and also served on the Vestry at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He has been a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral for the last 25 years.
Jack's gentle manner, ready smile, and devotion to his family, despite the pain of arthritis and more recently lung disease, has been a source of inspiration to all who knew him. His family was the center of his life. He was a patient, kind mentor to his sons and "Papa" received much joy from his grandchildren, whom he dearly loved.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, John T. Reeks and Ernestine Landry Reeks, his brother, John T. Reeks, Jr., and his granddaughter, Cory Katherine Hiers. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patsy Gorman Reeks; siblings, Joseph E. Reeks, Marjorie Mae Reeks and Mary Ann Reeks Graves; children, F. John Reeks, Jr. and wife, Gretchen of Shreveport, Louisiana, Wesley Gorman Reeks and his wife, Edyie of Bedford, New Hampshire, Scott Thomas Reeks and his wife, Beth of Shreveport, Louisiana and Stuart Landry Reeks and his wife, Susan of Shreveport, Louisiana. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, John Mason Reeks, Michael Crosbie Reeks, Jonathan Wesley Reeks, Joshua Wesley Reeks, Caroline Elise Reeks, Seth Alexander Reeks, Zachary Scott Carter, Stuart Landry Reeks, Jr. and Jackson Thomas Reeks.
Pallbearers will be James M. Light, Jr., Creighton M. Light, John S. Barr, Alfred T. Moore, Jr., Todd E. Utz, Charles B. Gorman, Jr., Cary D. Camp and Paul R. Graves.
