US Marine LCPL Ernest Franklin Elders, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Shelby, NC.

US Marine Lance Corporal Ernest Franklin Elders was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Marine Corps, LCPL Elders served our country until March 20th, 1969 in Quang Tri, South Vietnam. He was 22 years old and was not married. It was reported that Ernest died from small arms fire or grenade. His body was recovered. LCPL Elders is on panel 29W, line 088 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.

I was with him when he was killed in action. Karl Berglund.

Your my Hero. This is my Uncle whom I never had the chance to meet. For my freedom and yours he died serving his country 10 months before my birth. I love you dearly and missed having you in my life. He is the Son of Mr Ernest C Elders of 12216 Wade Park Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44106, and the Late Mrs Magdelene Powell Elders. Grandson of Mrs Addie S. Elders, 836 Logan Street, Shelby NC.

He served with Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd MAF.

He was awarded The Combat Action Ribbon(CAR), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal and The National Defense Service Medal.
