She was born Jan. 6, 1924, in Beaverdam to Ernest and Nellie Coon Manahan, who preceded her in death. On Aug. 15, 1942, she married M. Dale Brown, who died Feb. 2, 1994.
Mrs. Brown retired as a fifth-grade teacher and media specialist from the Shawnee school system, having taught for 22 years at Maplewood and Elmwood elementary schools. She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Cridersville, where she served as chairwoman of its Ruth Circle and had been superintendent of its Sunday school for several years. She also taught a class for the Bethel Bible Series, was active in the Stephen Ministry, taught an adult Sunday school class, served on the worship and music committee and was a supporter of the church's music program. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Sorority, the Ohio and National education associations and the Shawnee Township Fire Department Auxiliary. She was a 1941 graduate of Shawnee High School and a 1962 graduate of Ohio Northern University, Ada.
Survivors include three daughters, Cathie Brown, of Lima, Marsha (Barry) Smith, of Oxford, Md., and Sheila Rae (David) Burnside, of Valparaiso, Ind.; six grandchildren, Denette (Matthew) Steele, Rebecca (Matthew) Trefz, Rachel, Jason (Karalyn) Burnside, Jenny (Chris) Koehler and Matt Burnside; five great-grandchildren, Spencer Dale, Delaney Marie, Keegan Elliot, Ella Dawn and Adam; and a brother, Dr. Raymond (Marilyn) Manahan and his children and grandchildren.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Cridersville. The Rev. James Couser will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery...
