Information from WPA inventory (1940)claims he died in 1888. Information from FAG contributor #46939947 indicates that: Benjamin H. Armstrong's 2nd wife filed a widow's pension due to his civil war service. These files note he died 7 Nov 1885, and not in 1888 like the WPA index. This date is recorded several times throughout these documents, including a physician's affidavit which explains cause of death and treatments given. The actual death date on the tombstone reads 1885.
the 1850, 1860,and 1870 Federal Census Records for Indiana, show Benjamin was born about 1829, not 1832. Again according to census records, his first wife, Sarah Ann Beasey was born in 1832.
The Starke county Probate and Guardianship Record book show his will being probated in the October 1887 session. His Father was Samuel Armstrong, born in New Jersey and migrated to Indiana in the early 1820'. His mother was Anna Hillman, born about 1798 in Kentucky and moved with her parents to Montgomery County, Indiana also in the early 1820's. This information was obtained from a biography of Benjamin's youngest brother, Dr. Lewis P. Armstrong of Fountain County, Indiana, which was written in 1881 by H. H. Beckwith, "History of Fountain County, Indiana".
Benjamin H. Armstrong married Ms. Sarah Ann Beasey on 6 May 1852 in white Co., Indiana.
