"Emma Patten Dies In Joseph"
final rites for Mrs. Emma Patten, who passed away at her home in Joseph Saturday evening, July 10, 1954, after an illness of eight months were held at Booth-Bollman chapel Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Rev. Leslie B. Bailey officiating.
Mrs. R.D. Kay and Mrs. Garnet Best sang the duets: "In the Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross," with Mrs. Best at the organ. Pallbearers were Ray McCall, Orion Hug, Raymond Cowan, Earl Moore, George Darr and Cecil Darr, all of Elgin, and burial was in the cemetery at Elgin where she had lived many years.
Hester Emma Darr was the daughter of Jesse and Catherine Darr, and was born October 14, 1870 in Missouri. She crossed the plains with her parents by wagon train when ten years of age and settled near Elgin where she grew up, married Charles Ray Patten, made her home until moving to Joseph in 1915. Since then she had made Joseph her home. She was a member of the American Legion auxiliary.
Her survivors include two sons, Leo L. Patten, Joseph, and Loren D. Patten, Enterprise, and a step-son, Ray Patten, of Astoria, Ore.; two daughters: Mrs. V. Jean Warnock, of Joseph, and Mrs. E. Eva Witham, of Baker; 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
