Betty E. Bell, 71, wife of the late Daniel F. Bell Sr. and a resident of Melfa, passed away Monday, Dec. 4, 2006, at Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox. Born Sept. 14, 1935, in Goldsboro, N.C., Mrs. Bell was the daughter of the late Randolph C. Hill and Ola Mae Hill Pate. She was a FOA for Green Thumb/Experience Works. She was a member of the Assateague Tribe of Virginia, a former member of Exmore Rotary, a former Board Member of ESO, a former volunteer of CSC Soup Kitchen and the Foodbank of the Eastern Shore. She is survived by four children, Deborah B. Gifford and husband Les of Greenbush, Audrey L. Prettyman of Melfa, Daniel F. Bell Jr. and wife Nancy of Greenbush, and Daphne A. Bell of Melfa; a sister, Shelia Nanna of Fredericktown, Mo.; three brothers, Joseph Hill of Jasper, Tenn., and Elijah Pate and Franklin Pate, both of Goldsboro; five grandchildren, Jim, Melissa, Angela, Aaron and Audrey; nine great-grandchildren, Zackary, Trysta, Carter, Elizabeth, Aaron, Taylor, Mikey, Megan and Anna; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Charles Pate. Funeral services were conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Parksley Funeral Home on Thursday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. Private interment was in the Edgehill Cemetery in Accomac. There was a visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 7 - 8:30. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross, Eastern Shore of Virginia Chapter, P.O. Box 426, Exmore, VA 23350 and friends are encouraged to give blood to help those in need. Arrangements by Williams-Parksley Funeral Home.
