LeRoy G. Ediger, 48, Dodge City, died Monday morning at the Dodge City Regional Hospital after an eight-month illness. Born July 29, 1930 at McPherson, he married Mary Getman June 10, 1972 at Dodge City. He was a Ford County equipment operator and a former McPherson resident, moving to Dodge City in 1970.

He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church, VFW, both of Dodge City; and a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

Survivors: widow; son, Michael (with Irene Dipman Strong); daughter, Donna (with Carylon 'Carol' Harding ); stepsons, Bill Getman and Donald Getman; stepdaughters, Mrs. Judy Romesburg and Mrs. Barbara Phillips; mother, Mrs. P.A. Ediger; brother, Verne; sister, Mrs. Leona Orr; seven step-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Burkhart Funeral Chapel, Dodge City; the Rev. William R. Wambsganss. Burial will be 3 p.m. Thursday in Hoffnungsau Cemetery, Inman, with military rites by the VFW. The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society. Friends may call until funeral time at the chapel.

Veteran of World War II, the Korean War, and Purple Heart recipient, LeRoy was a survivor (one of the 120 out of 1000 men) of the Battle of Chosin Reservoir in North Korea, November-December 1950. For the remainder of his life he suffered greatly from what was referred to as "battle fatigue," or "shell shock" but is now diagnosed as posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
