Conferina Sanchez, age 81, a longtime resident of Las Vegas, N.M., passed away on Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, at the Alta Vista Regional Hospital.
She was born in El Porvenir, N.M., on July 25, 1925, to the late Prudencio Gonzales and Hilaria Maestas Gonzales.

She was united in marriage at the Santo Nino De Atocha Church in El Porvenir in 1945 to Jose Sanchez.

She was a Foster Grandparent at Los Ninos Elementary School. She loved to plant, dance, cook, listen to music, travel and she loved her family.

A lifelong Catholic, she was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Prudencio and Hilaria Gonzales; husband: Jose Sanchez; daughters: Elsie Sanchez-Sena, 9 months old-Lillian Sanchez and 2-year-old: Lillian Sanchez; sons: Arthur Sanchez and Michael Sanchez; and grandson: Michael Sanchez.

She is survived by her daughters and sons: Gloria Trujillo and husband Delfie of Santa Fe, N.M., Steve Sanchez and wife Deborah of Sapello, N.M., Leroy Sanchez and wife Anita of Las Vegas, N.M., Nancy Cross and husband Phillip of Albuquerque, N.M., Mary Louise Herrera and husband Henry, Margie Garduno and husband Robert, and Mary Jane Sanchez-Halpern all of Las Vegas, N.M.; sister: Virginia Duran of Las Vegas, NM; grandchildren: Delphine Trujillo of Santa Fe, Blanca Trujillo-Sena and husband Dave, Bonita Rendon and husband Andres of Rio Rancho, N.M., Brenda Besaw, Evette Sena, Stephen Sanchez and wife Jennifer, all of Albuquerque, Evelyn Blanton and husband Chris of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Stephanie Sanchez of Sapello, Chris Sanchez and wife Maria of Santa Fe, N.M., Jackie Sanchez, Leroy Lucero-Sanchez, Eric Yee and wife Andrea all of Las Vegas, N.M., Brandon Cross of Albuquerque, N.M., Logan, Austin, and Taylor Herrera all of Las Vegas, N.M., Stacey Sanchez, Joseph Garduno both of Las Vegas, N.M., Sampson, Conf, Israel Halpern all of Las Vegas, NM; great-grandchildren: Ryan and Jensen Besaw, Dre Rendon, Esperanza Amor Sanchez, Samara and Anthony Sanchez, Alexus Sanchez, Jasmine and Rosalinda Yee, Margie and Julian Garduno, Jacquelyne and Leana Blanton; one great-great-grandchild: Kenny Besaw; and numerous other relatives and many friends.

Rosary devotional services will be conducted this evening at 7 at the Immaculate Conception Church. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday morning at 9 at the Immaculate Conception Church with Father George V. Salazar as celebrant. Interment will follow at the San Jose Cemetery with the following serving as casket bearers: Chris Sanchez, Logan Herrera, Stephen Sanchez, Israel Halpern, Eric Yee, and Sampson Halpern. Serving as honorary bearers will be: Stacey Sanchez, Coufe Halpern, and Anthony Sanchez.

She will lie in state at the Rogers Chapel today until 5:15 p.m. where family and friends may call.
