Mr. Charles Thomas Redmond was born to the union of Beatrice and William Redmond on November 3, 1920 in East Saint Louis, Illinois. His parents; one sister,Ocie; and one brother, Harry Lee, preceded him in death. At a very early age, he professed a hope in Christ, was baptized and united with Mt. Paran Missionary Baptist Church which was then located at 1201 Martin Luther King Drive in East St. Louis, where the Rev. L. A. Brown was Pastor. He remained a member for many years and was active in all phases of service especially Bible Study and music. He completed high school in East St. Louis and enrolled in Wilberforce University in Ohio. Four years later, he graduated with honors. He spoke five foreign languages fluently, wrote poetry, song and traveled extensively with Wings over Jordan Choir, was a possessor of a profound bass voice, performed in man concerts and tours. In his later years, when he returned to East St. Louis after residing in San Francisco for over 38 years, he joined and sang with the East St. Louis Township Clyde C. Jordan Senior Citizens Chorus where his Sister Anna was President. He was an employee of the U. S. Civil Service commission for many years where he served at the VA Hospital in the Pathology Department in San Francisco. He was inducted in the Armed Services on April 13, 1944 at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. He served four years and was discharged on February 6, 1948. His decorations and citations include; American Theater and Victory Service Ribbons and was Honorably Discharge. He was also a life member of the North American Hunting Club of California. Mr. Charles Thomas Redmond leaves to cherish his memory and mourn his passing a loyal and devoted sister, Anna L. Griggs, East St. Louis, IL; two nephews, Robert (Sulbrena) Day, Waterloo, IL; Charles Don (Lavonas) Redmond, East St. Louis, IL, and host of great nieces, nephews, special longtime friends from San Francisco, Hanson Lee and wife Mary Jane B. Julian and a host of others. "I AM the resurrections and the life; he that believeth in me though he were dead, yet shall he live. And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die but have eternal life.?"(John 11:25-26)
