Mary was the first child born to Josiah Wright Brooks and Martha Barding. She wed Solomon Hudson Roberts in Shelby County, Illinois on July 22, 1854. They first show in the 1870 census in Warsaw, Hancock County, Illinois. They had:
1) Nancy Anna in Aug 1855
2) Tryphena in Jul 1857
3) Sarah Jane on 6 Dec 1860
4) Cora Dell on 9 Feb 1862
5) Josiah R on 17 Feb 1864
6) James Wiley on 28 Jul 1867
7) Luella (Lulu) Jane on 7 Mar 1872

They were living in Warsaw per the 1880 census but the 1900 census has them in Lee County, Iowa with daughter Lulu. The census noted Mary had nine children and six were still alive. In 1910, they were in Oskaloosa, Iowa with five children still alive.
