Funeral services for Herman Adkins "Pete" Barnard, 65, long-time O'Brien resident, were held at 2p.m. Friday from the First Baptist Church in O'Brien with the Rev. K. E. Wooley of Benjamin officiating. Burial was in the O'Brien Cemetery with Smith Funeral Home of Knox City in charge. Mr. Barnard, died Wednesday at 12:15p.m. in the Knox County Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born December 22, 1901 in Alabama, he moved here as a child. He married Jackie Thomas on December 22, 1927 in Rochester. He was a retired grocer and landowner in the O'Brien area. He was a member of the O'Brien Baptist Church and was a mason. Survivors include his wife, of Knox City, two daughters, Mrs. Joe Barton of Benjamin and Mrs. Otis Frazier of Ablilene; one son, Joe Don Barnard of California; one brother, R. P. Barnard, Sr. of O'Brien and three sisters, Mrs. Lillie Vannoy of O'Brien, Mrs. Velma Barnard Tillinghast of Odessa, and Mrs. Emmett Cornett of Portales, N.M. and seven grandchildren. Pallbearers were Weldon LaDuke, Oran Covey, Clyde Covey, Buster Hodges, Ted Johnston, Dwight Gothard, Sam Johnston and John L. Grindstaff, Sr.
