J.C. SPAULDING, FORMER U.S. MARSHAL, DEAD
J. Clark Spaulding, 72, member of the famous Butler Zouaves during the Civil War, and for 12 years deputy Unites States marshal, died at his home, 112 Mary St., last night.
Recently appointed deputy sheriff, Mr. Spaulding had planned to take up work at the Court House to-day. He had been considerably troubled for some time with an old wound received during the war and while sitting with his wife last night was suddenly stricken and died within a half hour.
Mr. Spaulding was continuously in politics for a number of years. He was deputy marshal under Theodore L. Poole and has during the past few years been connected with the canal office.
He is survived by his widow and three sons, F.N. Spaulding of Syracuse, J.C. Spaulding Jr., of Sarena, Cal., and four daughters, Mrs. Harry Wright of Canton, Pa., Mrs. A.J. Mueller of Toledo, O., and Mrs. G.F. Greer and Mrs. A.J. Smingler, both of Syracuse.
