In memoriam Samuel K. Casey
Came to territory of Illinois with his parents during his first year and settled in what is now Jefferson County.
He was christened at Hillsboro Illinois College. He was county judge of Franklin County for three years, Barrister
of Public Monies in Shawneetown, warden of penitentiary for five years during which time he was commissioner for
building the new state prison at Joliet which was done in a manner which commemorates his fidelity to every public trust.
In 1868 he was elected to the state senate which position he honorably filled at the time of his death. He was just and
generous to all. A man of liberal views positive convictions and energetic action.
The S.L. & S.E, RR is evidence of his untiringly devotion in every public improvement.
