Thornton Baker Cabe, 74, of Winder, Ga., died Thursday, July 6, 2006.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 10, at Winder First Baptist Church with the Rev. John Talley officiating. Burial was in Old Savannah Cemetery.

He was born in Jackson County. He was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and was the founder of Cabe Enterprises. He opened the Winder KFC 30 years ago and went on to build seven Western Sizzlin' Steakhouses, three KFCs and three Jeffery's Sports Grills. He was still active in his business at the time of his death.

He was the son of the late Thornton Baker and Annie Reed Cabe. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Bradley.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years Frankie E. Cabe; one son Jeffrey Cabe of Winder; two daughters, Beth Rosenzweig and Melanie Maddox, both of Winder; two sisters, Irene Fisher and Gladys Clark, both of Sylva; and four grandchildren.
