Edna A. Izard Alston

Edna A. Alston, 87, died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at Nolan Nursing & Rehab Center.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. on Monday, June 7, 2004 at Sweetwater Cemetery with Rev. James Thompson officiating, and under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.

She was born Sept. 11, 1916, in Jones County, and married Harry Alston on March 25, 1939 in Sweetwater. She was a Baptist and a homemaker. She played piano in her church for many years. She was a graduate of Sweetwater High School. She lived in Sweetwater from 1926 to 1953; in Abilene and Albany from 1953 to 1959; and back in Sweetwater since 1959.

Survivors include a daughter, Edna Piland and husband Wayne of Sweetwater; a brother Jay Izard of Fresno, Calif.; sister-in-law, Mattie Cosby of Lake Sweetwater; three grandchildren; five great- grandchildren, four step great-grandchildren; six step great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Alston on Oct. 1, 2002; one daughter, Frankie Louise in 1943; one sister; and one brother.
