US Soldier killed at the Battle of the Little Big Horn. Pvt McDonald enlisted into the US Army on September 29, 1875, in Boston, MA. He was described as 5'6", grey eyes, brown hair with a fair complexion. On October 25, 1875, McDonald was assigned to Company A, 7th US Cavalry Regiment at Ft Lincoln, Dakota Territory. At the Battle of the Little Bighorn, Company A was assigned to Maj Reno's Battalion. McDonald was killed sometime during the battle. Various surviving soldier accounts reported McDonald as either being killed during the Valley Fight or on Reno's Bluff. His remains were never identified. It is likely McDonald's unidentified remains were buried where they were found. In 1881, all known battlefield burials were moved to a mass grave on top of Last Stand Hill. On November 19, 1885, his mother was awarded a pension.
