Thelma Loucks, age 97, of Perry, died on Friday, July 18, 2008 at Dallas County Hospital in Perry under the care of Iowa Hospice.

Thelma Genevieve Loucks was born on May 25, 1911 near Jamaica, IA to Lennie and Clara Louise (Jonnson) Maynard. She attended school at Grove City, MN until her family moved back to Jamaica. She met Otis Lee Loucks and they were married on September 3, 1929 in Perry. She helped with the family business keeping the books for the Otis L. Loucks Body and Fender Shop in Perry.

Thelma attended the First Baptist Church in Perry. She loved talking to and telling stories to her family. She faithfully attended all of their activities and programs. When her daughter-in-law Joyce died she helped raise Steve, Jacqui and Shelli. As part of her care for her family, she would host an individual birthday party for each of the grandchildren every year. Her care for the Perry Community included helping found the Senior Fellowship Dinners and assisting with the dinners each week until her health would not allow her to, volunteering for the Perry Community Blood Drive, Food Pantry, was a member of Kings Daughters, and the First United Methodist Church Womens Circle. She would take her friends places they needed to go when were unable to get there alone. She enjoyed working Crossword puzzles, keeping her flowers, garden and yard looking nice. She was a sports fan and would watch and keep score for her favorite basketball teams. Thelma will be especially remembered for her unconditional love to her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lennie and Clara Maynard, husband Otis Loucks, daughter-in-law Joyce Loucks, brother, Carl Maynard and a sister-in-law Mary.

She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Ridnour (Larry) of Perry, IA; son, Keith Loucks of Perry, IA; grandchildren, Steve Loucks of Linwood, KS; Jacqui Gardiner (Alex) of Johnston and their children, Austin, Nick, Benjamin and Abby; Kurt Ridnour (Donna) of Perry and their children, Sarah, Cody and David; Eric Ridnour of Perry; Joel Ridnour (Merry) of Perry and their children, Gabe, Anna and Samuel; Erin McCarty (Mark) of Perry and their children, Paige, Haley and Dane; Shelli Cleverley (Todd) of Washington, IA and their children, Genevieve and Otis; Ryan Ridnour (Michelle) of Lees Summit, MO and their children, Carly and Cain; and great great granddaughter Teresa (daughter of Sarah).
