Health director of Meriden for 24 years. His career centered on medicine, sports and education. The Dr. Stoddard "Silver Bowl" Trophy for high school football was named in his honor, as was the health department building. He was awarded the "Gold Key" Award by the Connecticut Sportwriters Alliance for his service to sports. He was elected to the Meriden Hall of Fame in 1990. Dr. Stoddard never refused a house call. He delivered 3,465 babies during his career. He was the son of John R. and Lila Steele Stoddard. He was married to Mary Bernice Styles of New Britain.
