"He was an ordained Free Will Baptist preacher, although unknown when and where he was ordained. He came into Indian Territory, in what is now Oklahoma, where these pioneer ministers preached and organized churches for the settlers. When several churches were organized, they met at Nubbin Ridge school house, near Spiro, Choctaw Nation, Sept. 1, 1894, and formed the Territorial Association of Free Will Baptists. Eld. A. Barnhill, was elected the first moderator, Eld. O.J. Taylor, Ass't Moderator, and Eld. I.W. Graham, clerk. Eld. A. Barnhill's name appears in old Territorial marriage records of those he performed.
