Luke worked part-time for Williamson County Equipment in Taylor. He loved hunting and reading. He also enjoyed cooking and camping outdoors. He was a member of Knobbs Spring Baptist Church. He was on the track team at Thralls High School and was president of the Thrall FFA. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Morris Atwood.

At age 10, Luke sent a family who lost their teenage daughter a letter that included the words now on his epitaph. His family thought it was fitting for his own tombstone.
