Mr. Nelson Edward Bailey, 91, formerly of 2565 Winner Road, Hermitage, PA died peacefully at the home of his daughter Mrs. Nancy Taylor in Sharon, PA. He was born in Sharon, PA on November 17, 1914 a son to the late Thomas A.. and Edith Titus Bailey. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Sharon, PA and was a well appreciated public servant. Mr. Bailey was a former Assistant Chief and a life member of the Hermitage Volunteer Fire Department; a past president of the former Hickory Township Volunteer Fire Department; past president of Mercer County Firemen's Association; past president and life member of Mercer County Fire Police Association. His employment began in 1930 when he worked for Taylor – Winfield Corporation, Warren, OH, however from 1954 thru 1985 he served as a sergeant in the Hickory Township Special Police Department and during the construction of the Shenango Dam and Shenango Valley Mall in Hermitage, PA he was the director of building site security. All the while, supporting his family, he maintained a job as a furnace fireman for Shenango Inc., Sharpsville, PA from 1940 thru 1979. Surviving are his two daughters : Mrs. David ( Nancy ) Taylor, Sharon, PA; Mrs. Robert ( Janice ) Hart II, Fayetteville, NC; two sons : Edward C. Bailey and his wife : Sandy, Hermitage, PA; Harold R. Bailey, Brookfield, OH, eleven grandchildren : Rhonda D. Shawver, Dawn Marie Taylor, Daniel T. Taylor, David P. Taylor, Robert J. Hart III, James S. Hart, Elaine M. Faylo, Edward C. Bailey Jr., Rebecca L. Bale, Harold R. Bailey, Jr., Jason M. Bailey and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife : Nina Marie Charles Bailey whom he married September 28, 1940 and who died February 13, 1997; two brothers : Kenneth and Thomas Russell Bailey and a sister: Margaret Leidy. The Bailey family would like to thank the staff of Adult Daycare of Cordia Commons and UPMC Horizon Hospice for their compassionate care and friendship through these many years.
