Son of Alfred A. Bard and Matilda Ellen Briggs. Husband of Mary Elizabeth Harper.

Obituary:
Russel D. Bard, a native of Germany Valley, died at the Lewistown hospital Tuesday evening, December 14, 1937 at 6 p.m. He had been admitted to the hospital the same day and had been seriously ill but a few days. Death was due to a complication of diseases. He was aged 41 years, 2 months and 5 days. Russel D. Bard was born in Mifflin county near Newton Hamilton, the son of Alfred A. and Matilda E. Briggs Bard, October 9, 1896. However, most of his life was spent in Germany Valley on a farm. He was united in marriage with Miss Mary Harper, of near Aughwick, and to this union were born four children who survive their parents. The mother died on March 17, 1935. The children are Edward, Fae, James and Thomas. Mr. Bard attended the services at the Church of the Brethren in Germany Valley during his lifetime. He was for many years a member of the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Bard was one of a large family of children. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Matilda Briggs Bard of Mount Union, and the following brothers and sisters: Roy A. Bard, Allenport; Mrs. E.J. Hall, Brockway, Pa.; Orie W. Bard, Cygnet, Ohio; Mrs. William Faust, Mt. Union; Herman Bard, Newton Hamilton; Mrs. Foster Brandt, Mount Union, R.D. and Marshal Bard, Mount Union. Funeral services will be held Friday morning, December 17th. Short prayer services will be held at the Dunmire funeral home in Mount Union after which the body will be taken to the Stone Church in Germany Valley where the funeral services will be held. Rev. George Swayne will officiate. Interment will be directed by W.P. Dunmire in the cemetery adjoining the church.
