COOKEVILLE -- Services for Leo Brown, 90, of Cookeville, Tennessee, will be held Thursday, July 6, from the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home. Interment will be in Cookeville City Cemetery.
Mr. Brown passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2006, in Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
He was born February 11, 1916, in Putnam County to the late Charlie and Ruel Rodgers Brown.
He was owner and funeral director of Whitson Funeral Home.
Mr. Brown was married to Alene Vickers Brown for 64 years. They were baptized together in the Baptist faith. They were members of Washington Avenue Baptist Church.
He was a charter member of Upper Cumberland Horse Back Riders Club and Upper Cumberland Beagle Club. He was a past Fair Board member and grand marshal of the 2001 Cookeville Christmas Parade. Mr. Brown was employed with Whitson Hardware Co. & Appliance since 1938. He coached little league baseball and independent basketball teams. He was a commentator at the Putnam County Fair Mule shows and received numerous championship awards in mule pulling competition. He also helped with the Putnam County 4-H program.

His family includes a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Jack Mattson of Tennessee; a son, David M. Brown of Tennessee; a brother, Earl Brown of Kansas; four grandchildren, Mark Mattson, Kristi Jared, Kyle Brown and Kim Dyer; and 10 great-grandchildren, Lauren, Rachel, Hannah and Catalina Jared, Leigh and Sydney Mattson, Alex and Alana Brown and Zachary and Max Greenwood.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alene Vickers Brown; his stepmother, Mary Ellen Fields; and a brother, Carl Brown.
Pallbearers will be friends.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Beagle Club, Upper Cumberland Horse Back Riders Club and Tennessee Funeral Directors.

Bros. Johnny Fox and Mark Gaw will officiate at the services.
