John Overton was the son of Robert Overton and Maria Roy. He married Lucina Otto March 16, 1842 in Ohio. They moved to Dane, Dane County, Wisconsin where their 6 children were born: Adele M. Overton who married J. Sydney Brown a prominent merchant in Denver, Henry Overton, John Clarence Overton, Silas P. Overton, Maria L Overton and Harriett Charlotte Overton who married George Cole Otto.
