Son of William Booker Burks and Sarah Elizabeth Wilson. Brother of Samuel Allen, Elizabeth Ann, William Thomas, Jesse Sylvester, Nancy Malinda, and Charity Callie Burks. On November 11,, 1894, he married Sarah Marie Tarpley, daughter of William Henry Tarpley and Cathrine Bass. From this union, 6 children werer born: William Henry, Clara Ethel, Katie Elizabeth, Everette Franklin, and twin boys that died at birth. Sarah died in the childbirth of the twin boys on December 24 1904. In June, 1906, he married Carrie Boswell. To this union, 6 children were born: Mary Paralee, Melissa Viola, Jessie Delores, Samuel David, Delbert Loeman, and Dorothy Frances Burks.

I.D., as he was more commonly known, was a farmer. He farmed the Collin Co., Texas area for a good 30 years. Relocated the family to Tuscola, Texas around 1923. Moving from there to four miles North of Roscoe in 1929. Death resulted from pneumonia with which he had been ill from for 10 days. He was 60 years old.
