Hepza I. Burkett, 78, Shelbyville, died Sunday June 21, 1998 at Major Hospital, Shelbyville, Indiana.

Born Oct. 15, 1919, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Sanford and Arzora Mae (Branyan) McColley. She married John Clifford Burkett on June 30, 1973, and he died in August 1985.

Mrs. Burkett was a homemaker.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Shelby County Salon No. 281, Women's Relief Corps, and a former member of Shelbyville's Rebekah Lodge.

Survivors include a son, Phillip Bassett, Shelbyville; a daughter, Debbie Morgan, Texas; a brother, James McColley, Shelbyville; three sisters, Isabelle Jeffries, Goldie Hungerford and Dorothy Brooks, Shelbyville; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by seven brothers and one sister.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Corlis Dees II officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
