My grandfather remembered visiting him at his home on Alpine and just sitting in a corner quietly while the adults talked. He used to see him sitting on the bench at Leonard/Alpine in front of the bank where he would go relax. His 2nd wife was known to be quite overbearing. They spoke Dutch in the house.
