Verlin R. Abel went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Wednesday, March 29.

Able was born June 15, 1913, to V.R. Abel and Maggie Wisehart in Ava, Mo. At the age of 8, he moved with his family to Wetumka.

He was an Oklahoma educator, receiving his teaching degree from East Central University in Ada and his master's degree from The University of Oklahoma. He served as school superintendent in several Oklahoma school districts.

After leaving professional education, Able continued his zeal for learning as a salesman for school books and supplies with Thompson's Books Store. He was an ordained minister and taught Sunday school class for 66 years. He loved his church life and won many people to Christ.

Verlin married Florence Elizabeth Skinner of Ada on July 12, 1934. They had two sons and one daughter.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and six sisters.

He is survived by his wife Florence of the home; a sister; two sons, Paul Abel and his wife Joyce of Bethel Acres and Ed Abel and his wife Carol of Yukon; a daughter, Donna Sue Holt and her husband Steve of Mustang; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Wallace Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Leroy Rice officiating and the Rev. Scott Gordon assisting. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery.
