A very special man who loved his family and along with his wife of 64 years worked hard to give them a good life. Together they raised three children who gave them seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren, all dearly treasured. He is survived by one sister in Virginia. He also leaves a sister-in-law and many nieces and nephews. He loved and guided others who still consider him their "Dad" and mentor.
Always there when anyone needed him Vern made new friends where ever he went and could talk with them about anything.
Vern and his wife moved to Dixon, CA. in 1940 from Minnesota and in 1945 purchased a dairy farm in Rocklin, CA. and Rocklin Feed and Farm Supply. They owned and operated these for many years supplying milk and eggs and farm supplies to local families.
He also worked for Southern Pacific Railroad and during the 1976 Bomb explosions in the Roseville trainyard he had been told by his crew that something was wrong. Not knowing bombs were about to explode he took his own truck into the yard to check on his crew and when the bombs blew he was blown out of his truck. The truck was completely destroyed. The remains of his truck were seen in the arial view of the destruction on the front page of newspapers nationwide. Somehow he survived after being thrown far from his truck and covered with schrapnel imbedded in his body. He later retired after 33 years of dedicated service.
During his time with the railroad in 1960 they purchased a new home and moved from Rocklin to the Citrus Heights and Roseville,CA. area where they lived many more happy years. They loved to take the grandkids and go camping in the mountains or at the sea shore with their trailer.
After retirement Vern decided he wanted to keep busy and went to work for Sierra View County Club in Roseville,CA. in charge of golf cart fleet maintenance. He continued this job until his declining health kept him from the job he loved and the many friends he made. He went to his eternal home during a peaceful sleep.
