According to the muster rolls, John R. Biggs was a private in Company H of the 25 IL US Infantry. He was 5' 6 1/4" tall with auburn hair and hazel eyes; he was single and a farmer when he enlisted at the age of 21. He died on November 21, 1863 in Chattanooga from wounds received at the Battle of Chickamauga.
