Allen Davis Sr. (my grandfather)
was born to Allen and Mariah Davis
on June 22, 1913 in Roebuck, SC.
to a family of 9 children.
At age 9, he was abandoned by his
family due to the harsh socio-economic
and racial climate of the times,
but was raised (surprisingly) by a very
kind catholic italian-irish family
(name unknown at this time)
as well as extended family and freinds.

Upon his becoming adult, he was a skilled
agriculturalist, plumber, electrician
stone & brick mason.
He also worked for the WPA during the
great depression and had a hand in building
the Lake Hartwell dam / reservoir in
Hartwell County.

In 1931, he met my grandmother,
Mary Emily Meadows and a year later on
July 27, 1932, they were married.
He was 19 and she was 14 yrs of age.
Their marriage lasted for 42 yrs until
my grandmother's passing on May 7, 1974
and produced 11 children,
10 of which survived to adulthood.
He worked for the Southern Railroad
for 40 yrs as a baggage handler and for
the U.S. postal service as a driver for 35 yrs.
During the war years of the 1940's,
he was able to save enough money to buy
his own plot of land as well as the materials
to build his own house at 220 Caulder Circle
in Spartanburg, which still stands to this day
and shelters surviving family members.

He was the ultimate provider, a loving father
and grandfather and a man of extremely
self-posessed will and character in addition
to uncanny intuitive powers.
At the time of his death in October 1994,
the little half cherokee / half black
boy who was abandoned by his family was
survived by 9 children, 55 grandchildren
and 11 great grandchildren!...Quite a feat!
He was my grandfather and I'll always remember
his strength, love, wit and depth of feeling.
Rest In Peace Grand-Daddy...until we meet again!
Your Loving Grandson, Reesy
