Pauline Katherine (Rains-Rowlands) Kernan was born on March 28, 1913 in Missouri, the only daughter of Rex Aden Rains (1885-1973) and Vesta Ferrell Keith (1884-1931).
Pauline's childhood was spent in Trenton, Grundy Co., Missouri, along with her two siblings, who often called her "Kate": her twin brother, Paul Robert Rains (1913-1978), and her younger brother Richard Robert Rains (1915-1977).
In about 1932, Pauline married Donald Robert Rowlands (c. 1907-1948), with whom she had at least one son, Donald. In 1948, Donald passed away, leaving Pauline a widow and their son without a father. In 1950, she married Delmar Clair Kernan (1908-1979), who she had met while she was working at a furniture upholstery company.
Following their marriage, Delmar and Pauline bought some land and built a home together in Sherwood, Washington Co., Oregon. They were living their when Delmar passed away in 1979. Following his death, Pauline sold their home and traveled, before moving to Portland, Multnomah, Oregon. There, she passed away on June 30, 1997. She was buried at Skyline Memorial Park next to Delmar.
