Jim Roberts was the son of Basil and Gladys Roberts. He died from injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Kuna, Idaho. Services were officiated by Rev. James R. Wilson at the Crane Creek Country Club where Jim had been employed for 22 years, serving as greens superintendent from 1966, then as general manager from 1979 to 1987.

In 1964 Jim was married. Two daughters were added to the family. Jim was a devoted husband and father, who always made time for his wife and two daughters. He and his wife enjoyed working together, doing projects around the house, horseback riding, and quiet times together at home.

Survivors included his wife, his two daughters and sons-in-law, his parents, two sisters, and three grandsons. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jessica Dawn Fairchild.
