Continental Congressman. A native of Scotland, he served as a General in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. He served as a Delegate to the Continental Congress from New York in 1781, and as a Member of the New York State Senate for the Southern District from 1783 until his death in 1786. He was the first president of the Bank of New York.
