EDGERTON -- Oren H. Elliott, 79, of Edgerton, Ohio, died at 12:05 a.m. Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Bryan Care and Rehabilitation Center, where he was a patient, after an extended illness.
A native of Paulding County, Ohio, Mr. Elliott served in the United States Army, owned two restaurants in Paulding and worked at All Star Products in Defiance, before he came to Edgerton in 1981. In 1983, he purchased All Star Products and formed Oren Elliott Products. He was active in politics, working with Paul Gillmor and Delbert Latta on issues related to worker's compensation legislation in Ohio, and was also instrumental in the opening of the turnpike exit on Ohio 49. Oren was also a longtime member of NFIB and a longtime member of the Edgerton Rotary Club, of which he was a past president and a Paul Harris Fellow. He also owned and trained harness race horses and enjoyed fishing.
Oren H. Elliott was born on the family farm in Paulding County, on November 26, 1932, the son of Ward and Edra (Eakins) Elliott. He married his wife of 57 years, June E. Kurtz, on March 25, 1955, in Angola, Indiana, and she survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Marcia (Carlos) Henandez of Paulding, Ohio, Karen (LeRoy) Hurtig of Defiance, Ohio, Sandra Elliott of Edgerton and Patricia Elliott of Defiance; two sons, Steven (Michelle) Elliott, of Bryan, and Matthew (Stephanie) Elliott,of Edgerton; nine grandchildren; and two brothers, Leroy (Sandra) Elliott and George (Donna) Elliott of Oakwood, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Warren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2012, from 4-8 p.m. in the Krill Funeral Home in Edgerton. Services will be held on Sunday, June 24, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton, with Reverend R.L. Barnett officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Edgerton.
