Loy Louise GREER CURREN was my father's first cousin. I recall no other family member, on our WRIGHT side of the family, that visited us and stayed close to the family as did Loy Louise GREER CURREN and her husband John Marion CURREN. They were warm hearted, kind, and wonderful to my parents. John Marion worked in the oil fields and they traveled quite a bit over the years chasing his next oil well job. Louise had collected more information on our WRIGHT, DePRIEST, HOSEY family than any other source. They would stop in for a visit at our Bakersfield home many, many times over the years as they traveled between jobs.
My earliest memories of Louise were in the mid 1950's when we would visit them in Garden Grove, California. I clearly recall her driving us out around a bunch of orange groves in Anaheim with her saying, "This is where Walt Disney is going to build his Magic Kingdom."
In the late 1960's Louise and John had their little travel trailer parked in Fillmore, California. I would stop in often for a home cooked meal on my way between Bakersfield and where I was stationed at Port Hueneme Seabee Base. Louise's down-to-earth kindness and knowledge of family was always an intrigue to me.
In the 1980's I stopped in to visit them in Garden Grove, California. Their son, Bill, was there with John Marion over in the corner reading the Bible. John hardly looked up the entire time I was there. I asked Bill, "‘What is he doing?' I will not forget Bill's remark, "He is cramming for the final exam."
A year or so before Louise's death I found her living with her daughter, Mary, in Omak, Washington. We had a nice visit but I could tell she was beginning to fail. Shortly, she was in the hospital in Kennewick, Washington, where I had my last visit with her about family and family history. She was a wonderful family friend with great amounts of kindness and graciousness.
