Former Anchorage resident Ronald L. ''Eli'' Whitney, 52, died of cancer Aug. 17, 1998, at Burien Terrace Nursing Center in Burien, Wash. A service was held Aug. 21 at Glendale Evangelical Lutheran Church. Interment was at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Wash.
Mr. Whitney was born Nov. 17, 1945, in Spokane, Wash. He attended junior high and high school in Prosser, Wash., graduating from Richland High School in 1964. He served six years in the Army National Guard, receiving an honorable discharge. Mr. Whitney and his wife, Nancy, were married Oct. 24, 1983. He had resided in Anchorage from 1982 to 1988, where he operated his own auto repair business until a diagnosis of cancer led to his relocation to Seattle.
Mr. Whitney is survived by his wife, Nancy; parents, Lee Roy and Willo Whitney; brothers, Thomas, Wallace, Gerald, Edward and Russell; sister, Karen; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
