A headstone has been erected at the graves of Floyd and Claude Allen, at Fancy Gap, near Hillsville, who were executed in the Virginia penitentiary for the murder of the Carroll county county officials in March, 1912. The monument bears the following inscription:
"Sacred to the memory of Claude S Allen and his father, who were judicially murdered in the Virginia penitentiary, by order of the government of the State of Virginia over the protest of 100,000 citizens of the state of Virginia. Placed here by a friend and citizen of Virginia."
