In 1946, he married Margaret Bilton and together they raised two sons; Robert and wife Susan and Richard and wife Becky and their children, Christopher, Christina, and Chase. Bob was a Lamar High School graduate (Class of 1939) and a Texas A & M graduate (Class of 1943). He served twenty-six years of devoted service in the Marine Corps and retired having achieved the rank of Lt. Colonel. His military career included service overseas during WWII and Korea. Subsequently, Bob joined Wyatt Industries, a subsidiary of USI, as Vice President of Industrial Relations. He and Marge traveled extensively and enjoyed residences in the United States and abroad. Bob was a member of the Saint Christopher's Episcopal Church and the Masons. He loved to fish, play bridge and scrabble, and entertain family and friends at his bay house in Caney Creek, Texas. Bob especially loved his wife, kids, and grandkids. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and occasional trips with members of his church. A devout Aggie, Bob always supported his University both in service and praise. He was in the Corps of Cadets and loved the Aggie traditions, particularly his beloved football team. Game strategy, whether on the football field or in the service to his country, was his forte. Bob was preceded in death by his wife Marge, who passed away June 14, 2005, also his father, his mother, and half brother Billy Black.
