Richard John Allen was born Feb 29, 1852, in Callington, Cornwall, England. He was christened in South Hill, Cornwall, on December 25, 1853. He was the son of Richard and Mary Whitford Allen. Grandson of Thomas Whitford and Annakiah George. He arrived on the ship "City of London" on Christmas Eve, 1868 with his mother and siblings. His step-father and another brother arrived earlier in the year. He married Elizabeth Smith in 1878, also a Cornish immigrant and together they had 11 children. He lived in Woodward, Clearfield Co., PA and later moved to South Fork, Cambria Co. PA where he died Jan 27 1919. He was a coal miner his entire life.
