Erminia was born in Abruzzi Italy. She came to the US at age 5 with her mother, Nicolina Barbetta DiGirolamo. They traveled to the US Aboard the SS Canopic through Naples Italy.
On June 23rd 1918 Erminia and Mario Mattei married at the Sacred Heart Church in East Boston, MA. They lived at 5A Seaver St E Boston and later moved to Lowell MA. Erminia and Mario had three children, Eugene,
Evelyn (Mattei) Recchia and Victoria (Mattei) DiBartolo.
Erminia and her husband both died on October 3, 1952 in a car crash in Vinita OK on Rt 66. They were on their way to California for the birth of a grandchild by Evelyn. Mario lost control of the vehicle and it went off the road and hit a culvert. Erminia died at the scene and Mario an hour later at the hospital in Vinita. Their funeral was held on October 9th 1952 at the Assumption Church on Sumner St East Boston, MA. They are buried in St Michaels's cemetery in Boston, MA.
