DAVENPORT - Burleigh D. Sharp, of Davenport, died Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at Genesis East Medical Center. Per his request, there will be no visitation or services. Cremation rites were accorded. Inurnment will be at a later date in Davenport Memorial Park. The Runge Mortuary is assisting his family with arrangements.
Burleigh was born February 3, 1923, in Holly Hill, Ky., the son of Nathan and Artie Mae (Perkins) Sharp. At age five, Burleigh's family moved to Eagle, Colo. He was raised in Vona, Colo., and graduated from Seibert High School in 1941. He then moved to Davenport. During World War II, he served in the Coast Guard aboard the U.S.S. Triton in the North Atlantic. He served in the Navy during the Korean conflict aboard the U.S.S. Alfred E. Cunningham. He was united in marriage to Inez Kroeger on April 15, 1943, in Kahoka, Mo. In his earlier years, Burleigh worked at Victor Animatograph. He retired from M.A. Ford Mfg. Co. after 32 years as a file cutter/tool grinder. Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 64 years, Inez, Davenport; son, Terry (Lana) Sharp, Davenport; daughter, Judy (Jim) Walter, Halfway, Mo.; brother, Herbert (Alice) Sharp, Triadelphia, W.Va.; sister, Zona Clark, Aurora, Colo; grandchildren, Tracy Richards, Jennifer Shook, James Walter, Greg Walter and Kyle Sharp; and great-grandchildren, Jaron, Bella, Kaitlyn, Julia and Tommy. His parents preceded him in death.
