He was born November 9, 1928 in North Bay, a son of Frederick E. Baker and Ruth Barry, and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953. George was employed at Marcy State Hospital for 34 years, primarily as a safety officer. He was united in marriage with Nancy M. Burgmaier on October 22, 1955. Mr. Baker was a member of American Legion Post 1113 in Whitestown.
In addition to his wife Nancy, he is survived by three daughters, Gail Baker of Utica, Karen Cieplenski and her husband, Rich of New York Mills, and Elaine Klaiber of Utica; five grandchildren, Elizabeth and Christine Eckhard, Kelly and Brian Cieplenski, and Matthew Baker. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Melissa Baker. George will also be sadly missed by his faithful cat, "Dolly Dolly".
George looked forward to spending time with his best friends of over 70 years, Dick and Ron Barr. A dedicated deer hunter, he looked forward to hunting the north woods around Otter Lake and Boonville with his buddies.
His family wishes to thank Emily Murdock for all her help during this difficult time. Thanks is also extended to the staff at Abraham House, Hospice & Palliative Care, and the Regional Cancer Center for their compassionate care given to George.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. from the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, Forty Main Street, Whitesboro. Interment will follow in Carr Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider donations in George's memory to Abraham House, Hospice & Palliative Care, or the Regional Cancer Center. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
